Golden Rock Resort Awarded Green Globe Certification and Green Key Award for Excellence in Sustainability

(St. Eustatius, Dutch Caribbean) September 17, 2025 – Golden Rock Resort, the luxury eco-retreat on the island of St. Eustatius, is proud to announce two major sustainability certifications: the Green Globe Certification and the Green Key Award. These notable accolades recognize the resort’s ongoing commitment to the environment and sustainability operations.

The Green Globe Certification, a globally recognized standard for sustainable tourism, acknowledges Golden Rock Resort’s efforts in energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction and community engagement. The certification signifies that the Golden Rock Resort has met a rigorous set of compliance indicators aligned with international sustainable tourism criteria.

In addition, Golden Rock Resort has been honored with the Green Key Award, a global eco-certification program coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Green Key Award reflects excellence in environmental responsibility within the hospitality industry, operating in over 60 countries. Golden Rock Resort earned the certification following a comprehensive evaluation of its environmental practices, energy and water conservation efforts, waste management systems and sustainability education.

“This incredible milestone didn’t just happen overnight, it's the result of real teamwork, hard work, and a shared commitment to doing things the right way,” said Anna Warner, Sustainability Representative for Golden Rock Resort. “From management to maintenance, everyone on our team has leaned into our sustainability goals with heart and hustle. We didn’t just talk the talk, we planted, recycled, measured, and made real change happen. We’re officially both Green Globe & Green Key Certified, and that’s something to be proud of! My deepest thanks to the entire Golden Rock family, your dedication, your passion, and your integrity made this happen. And just between us, saving the planet looks pretty good on us. But this isn’t just a Golden Rock win, it’s a Statia win. Sustainability is island business, and we’re proud to show that even a small hidden gem like Sint Eustatius can shine bright on the global stage. When one of us rises, the whole island rises.”

Since its opening in 2021, Golden Rock Resort has implemented a wide range of sustainability initiatives aimed at minimizing environmental footprint while maximizing positive impact. These include a 2,240 solar panel park powering majority of the resort, an advanced reverse osmosis system that turns saltwater into clean drinking water, and a helophyte filter that repurposes wastewater to irrigate gardens and lawns. In addition, the resort’s 20,000 sq foot organic greenhouse provides fresh produce, herbs and eggs for its two restaurants.

Other sustainable measures include over 140,000 plants, trees and flowers that have been planted since opening, offering gardens for guests to explore and a flourishing new habitat for local wildlife.

With these certifications, Golden Rock Resort further enhances its position as the Caribbean’s leading sustainable lifestyle resort, redefining luxury hospitality in the region.
